Maharashtra cyber police have arrested a Hyderabad-based IT engineer for allegedly streaming pirated content from various over-the-top (OTT) platforms and satellite channels on an Android app called Thop TV. The engineer, Satish Venkateshwarlu, 28, was running the Thop TV app and its website for the last two years and was offering content at a nominal subscription fee of Rs. 35 per month, according to a report. He was arrested from his residence in Gurramguda, a residential locality in Ranga Reddy District, Hyderabad, on Monday, July 12.
The police said that Venkateshwarlu was arrested following a complaint filed by broadcaster Viacom18 Media, reports The News Minute. However, some other broadcasters, including Star India, had also filed a case against Thop TV in the past.
Viacom18 Media reportedly approached the Maharashtra Cyber Cell with the complaint alleging that the Thop TV app was transmitting its content without authorisation. However, the local police in the matter was said to be not informed about the arrest.
Thop TV gained popularity among users and attracted lakhs of viewers for offering a variety of content such as sports matches, movies, and TV shows from various OTT platforms and channels at a dirt cheap subscription cost. The platform was also said to have 5,000 paid subscribers.
The police booked Venkateshwarlu for cheating under the Indian Penal Code and under the relevant sections of the Information Technology Act and the Copyright Act. He has been remanded in police custody until July 19.
Shortly after the arrest, Thop TV became no longer accessible to users. A report by The Indian Express suggests that Venkateshwarlu was fetching content to his app and website directly from OTT platforms using an API.

Adjustable kettlebells give you a good workout without taking up a lot of room in your home gym. Some are designed to easily take along with you as you travel. The best adjustable kettlebell is by Bowflex. The included weights give you several levels of resistance up to 40 pounds and are encased to help keep you safe during your workout. Plus, the body is contoured to make is safer when using the kettlebell close to your body. It’s easy to use, too.
The Bowflex adjustable kettlebell is our top pick for the best because of Bowflex’s reputation for making dependable and long-lasting products, the weight range you get with this kettlebell, and the ease and comfort of using it. There are four weights included that, when added, increase the resistance up to 40 pounds. While other kettlebells increase weight in five-pound increments, this one from Bowflex has in between weights, including eight pounds and 12 pounds. Turning the dial on the top of the encasing captures or drops weights until you have the desired amount for your exercise routine. This makes it easy to quickly change the overall weight during your workout without losing your stride. Because the weights are held within the Bowflex encasing, you don’t have to worry about bumping up against uneven ridges. The base of this kettlebell is coated so it won’t cause damage as it is placed on the floor. And the handle is extra wide and shaped to provide comfort and a good grip as you use it.
Easy to use
Only the best will do
Good weight range, easy to use, contoured shaped, and enclosed weights make the Bowflex adjustable kettlebell the best of the best.
Best Value: Apex
The Apex adjustable kettlebell is on the inexpensive side, but still has a lot to offer. It comes with four exercise plates that weigh five pounds each, plus the base, which weighs another five pounds, and the handle. Alone the handle is 15 pounds, which offers a good workout on its own. The weights are held together with a large screw that doubles as a stake that the plates are placed on. When the plates you need are on the pin, it is then screwed into the handle to create the kettlebell. The weights aren’t enclosed, so there will be ridges and unevenness where the weights rest upon each other. Also, the baseplate isn’t covered in any protective finish, so you’ll need to be careful when placing the bell on your floor. But overall, the plates are secured, and this adjustable kettlebell is a cost-effective way to get a good workout.
Half the cost of other brands
Made of metal
No protection on base
Good workout for a reasonable price
This metal kettlebell is adjustable between 15 pounds and 35 pounds. The plates aren’t enclosed and are held in place with a pin.
Soft Weights: Hyperwear
These soft weights are made with a neoprene shell and filled with sand. The sand is packed tight in its own shell. This helps the entire weight feel solid, just like metal weights and keeps the filling from shifting during workouts. As you work out, the soft weights don’t cause bumps or bruising as they bounce against your arms or other part of your body. Plus, they are gentle on floors and don’t make a lot of noise as they are set down. Each weight is added to the fiberglass handle by unscrewing the bottom and slipping it on, then resting on top of each other. You’re not restricted to adding weight in any size or weight order, which gives you variety in your workout. The Hyperwear adjustable kettlebell handle is made with a comfortable fiberglass that is tough enough to hold a lot of weight. This kettlebell comes with enough free weights to add up to a total of 20 pounds, but you can purchase weights separately and add enough to make a 30-pound kettlebell.
Easy on floors
Neoprene may cause cancer
Not as sturdy as metal weights
Reduce body harm and floor scuffs
This kettlebell comes with sand-filled weights encased in a soft, neoprene casing to prevent bruising and floor damage.
Sandbag Weight: Ludus Imperium
This kettlebell by Ludus Imperium is made using sand. It looks like a duffle bag that is filled with sand, but there are multiple layers inside to keep the sand in place while your exercise and not spill out, including a separate bag that comes out so you can fill it with sand then add it to the outer bag. The whole bell is reinforced to keep it from being damaged from punctures or tears. This sandbag-type kettlebell can be filled enough to weigh 40 pounds. And since you need to provide the sand, you can easily take this kettlebell with you on vacation and fill it at your pleasure. Filling this Ludus Imperium doesn’t back the sand tightly. It will shift during your workout. However, trainers find that the sand moving gives your muscles a more varied workout even when the weight remains consistent. Since the Ludus Imperium sandbag kettlebell is made with fabric, there isn’t any worry about it scratching or damaging your floors when you use it at home. The kettlebell alone is a pretty sweet deal, but you do need to purchase and add the sand, which is an additional cost. This can add up if you need to remove and repurchase sand often.
Easy to travel with
Up to 40 pounds of weight
Safe on floors
You provide sand
Portable and adjustable
Change the weight of the Ludus Imperium by adding more or less sand. This sandbag kettlebell gives you a unique workout.
Conversion Kit: Kettle Gryp
Source: Kettle Gryp
The Kettle Gryp is a portable handle that turns most handheld dumbbells into a kettlebell. This is the ultimate way to save on space while still getting a well-rounded workout because you don’t have to purchase different weights, but simply use the dumbbells you already have. The Kettle Gryp has a rubber-lined grove that fits snug against the bar of the dumbbell without allowing any movement or slipping. It easily holds up to 55 pounds of weight, too, which is a lot more than other traditional adjustable kettlebells. Its handle is extra wide to accommodate both single and two-handed exercises and isn’t too thick so that you won’t lose your grip. You can transport the Kettle Gryp on its own and use it at the hotel gym to keep up with your workout routine.
Weights not included
Made from plastic
Make your own kettlebells
Take the Kettle Gryp when you travel or use it at home to create kettlebells using existing dumbbells. It holds up to 55 pounds.
The Bowflex adjustable kettlebell has a contours case that keeps its weights firmly in place and away from your body to reduce pinching and other harm. It comes with six weights that, when added together, bring the total weight of this kettlebell to 40 pounds. While several adjustable kettlebells give you this much resistance, the weight tends to increase in five-pound increments. Bowflex, however, have in-between resistance weights of eight pounds and 12 pounds. No other adjustable kettlebell we looked at gives you these levels of resistance. You can easily add or drop weights by turning the dial at the top of the kettlebell body. Decreasing weight simply releases the extra weights from inside, so they stay behind when you lift the handle. When you place the case over stacked weights and turn the dial, these will become locked inside for increased resistance.
The large handle of the Bowflex is strong and wide enough for two-handed exercises. The base is coated to help protect flooring as it is being set and lifted during your exercise routine, and when stored during use. Because of how well it is constructed and its versatility, the Bowflex adjustable kettlebell is more expensive than most similar products from other manufacturers. But with your purchase of this kettlebell you also get access to Bowflex’s personal training videos that show exercises and hints for getting the most out of each exercise.

During its Inspire conference on Wednesday, Microsoft announced the debut of a “Cloud PC” platform dubbed Windows 365. It is the first subscription-based Windows service to offer a new way to access a full-fledged Windows OS using a laptop, desktop, or even a smartphone from anywhere. The new service from Microsoft turns the concept of a cloud PC into reality and comes at a time when businesses are making a shift towards a mix of office and remote work due to the pandemic. Windows 365 is designed to let users access cloud PCs, streaming a version of Windows 10 or Windows 11 in a native app or web browser on any device, anywhere you have an active internet connection.
Windows 365 Features
Windows 365 aims to provide an “instant-on boot experience” that will enable users to access their personalized apps, data, tools, and settings from the cloud across any device, including a Mac, iPad, Linux, and Android. Due to the cloud integration, users will be able to access the service while switching between multiple devices, and irrespective of the device, the Windows experience will be consistent. The service is built on Azure Virtual Desktop, but it simplifies the virtualization experience and handles all the details for the users.
The Redmond-based software giant mentioned that the cloud PC will support business apps like Microsoft 365, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Microsoft Power Platform, and more. For IT teams, Microsoft Endpoint Manager will be able to work with Windows 365, allowing them to manage cloud PCs, and apply security and management policies remotely from their devices.
Microsoft promotes that the cloud PC is designed to address some of today’s critical security challenges by leveraging a Zero Trust architecture. It comes with multi-factor authentication to explicitly verify any login or access attempt to a Cloud PC via integration with Microsoft Azure Active Directory. The cloud PC service also comes with options to delegate specific permissions such as licensing, device management, and cloud PC management using specific roles. Microsoft also boasts enhanced security and claims that all managed disks operating cloud PCs are encrypted, all stored data is encrypted at rest, and all network traffic to and from the Windows 365-based cloud PCs is also encrypted.
Microsoft has said that Windows 365 will be available in two configurations – Windows 365 Business and Windows 365 Enterprise. The cloud PC platform will be made available on August 2. Though Microsoft is yet to reveal the prices for the subscription options, now the company has inadvertently shared one pricing option, $31 per month per user. For the said subscription, Microsoft will offer two CPUs with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. This pricing option is part of the Windows 365 Business configuration. However, this isn’t the lowest-priced option, as the company will also be offering a single CPU with just 2GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.
Zomato IPO, which was launched on Wednesday, July 14, seems to have attracted a significant demand from young investors in India as per trading app Paytm Money on Thursday. It reported that 27 percent of the IPO’s applicants on the Paytm Money platform on the first day of the launch were under the age of 25 and 60 percent were under 30. More than 22 percent of the day-one applicants for the Zomato IPO on Paytm Money were new to capital market investors. The application window for the IPO is open until Friday, July 16.
Paytm Money said that the average Zomato IPO investor was a year younger than applicants for previous IPOs on its platform. Historically, 55 percent of IPO applicants on the platform have been under the age of 30, the digital brokerage arm of Paytm said in a statement.
In terms of demographics, Paytm Money said that other than top cities such as Bengaluru, Delhi, and Mumbai, first time participation was seen from smaller towns like Kodinar in Gujarat, Tuensang in Nagaland, and Rangapara in Assam. Women contribution was also 10 percent the overall applications received on the first day of the IPO, with a marginal higher ticket size over what was received from their male counterparts.
The average ticket size of IPO applications for Zomato on the first day of its launch was also 20 percent higher than that of other IPOs on Paytm Money, the company said. It, however, didn’t reveal the exact number of applicants received due to regulatory restrictions.
Paytm Money launched a pre-open IPO application feature ahead of the Zomato IPO launch earlier this week. It allows users to place an IPO order even a couple of days before the IPO goes live.
Zomato is aiming to raise Rs. 9,375 crores through its IPO, under which retail investors can apply for up to 13 lots where each lot contains 195 shares between Rs. 72–76. The Gurugram-based food delivery aggregator has Info Edge, Uber, Alipay Singapore, and Antfin Singapore as some of its major investors.
Paytm Money noted that the retail portion of the Zomato IPO was subscribed by over 200 percent within the first couple of hours of its opening. A Paytm Money spokesperson said that a large proportion of the Zomato IPO applicants could be young or new to capital markets investors.
As per the data available on the BSE portal, the Zomato IPO was subscribed 4.80 times on the second day, with bids for 4.73 times issue size particularly received from retail investors.

Xbox Series X and Series S may get improved controllers in the future, Head of Xbox Phil Spencer has said. Spencer was part of a podcast recently where he was asked about future hardware and, without disclosing too much, he hinted that the Xbox team may take inspiration from PlayStation 5’s DualSense controller. Xbox Series X and Series S controllers are pretty much the same as previous generation Xbox One controllers, with a few minor improvements.
Microsoft took the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” approach with its Xbox Series X and Series S controllers. They have the same overall feel and aesthetics as the Xbox One controller. Sony, on the other hand, has made major upgrades to its controller technology and feel. The PS5’s DualSense controller comes with immersive haptic feedback and dynamic adaptive triggers, upgrades that have been widely appreciated by gamers. Complimenting Sony on its DualSense controller, Phil Spencer on the Kinda Funny Gamescast podcast shared that the company might bring some of that technology to the Xbox controller.
“We’re definitely thinking about different kinds of devices that can bring more games to more places. There’s probably some work that we’ll do on the controller. I think Sony’s done a nice job with their controller and we kind of look at some of that…are there things that we should go do?” said Spencer.
He did however follow it by saying “probably not in the just more bespoke accessories place right now”. Spencer also spoke about VR and said that, as of now, Xbox isn’t planning anything around VR or AR. He added, “As it relates to VR specifically, the best experience I’ve seen is Quest 2 and I just think its untethered… the ease of use be it untethered in its capability just doesn’t, to me, require it being connected to an Xbox in any way.”

WhatsApp says that it banned 20 lakh accounts between May 15 and June 15, 2021, to try and prevent harmful behaviour. In its first transparency report, published under the new Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, the company revealed that it had banned 20,11,000 accounts in this one-month period. The Facebook-owned messaging platform identifies Indian accounts through the +91 country code of the mobile number used to register. It also added that India alone accounts for 25 percent of all the accounts banned in the world.
WhatsApp published the first edition of its intermediary guidelines report on Thursday, and in this, the company highlighted its own actions to prevent harmful behaviour. “Our top focus is preventing accounts from sending harmful or unwanted messages at scale,” WhatsApp said in its report that it also shared on email to Gadgets 360. “We maintain advanced capabilities to identify these accounts sending a high or abnormal rate of messages and banned 2 millions accounts in India alone from May 15 – June 15 attempting this kind of abuse.”
“In addition to the behavioural signals from accounts, we rely on available unencrypted information including user reports, profile photos, and group photos and descriptions, besides deploying advanced AI tools and resources to detect and prevent abuse on our platform,” WhatsApp added.
According to WhatsApp, it received a total of 70 reports for account support, 204 for ban appeals (of which it took action on 63), 20 for other support, 43 for product support, and 8 for “safety issues”. It added that almost 95 percent (or 19 lakh) of the account bans were carried out automatically, after the service detected “automated bulk messaging”, or spam.
It added that the number of accounts that were banned has gone up significantly since 2019, because “our systems have increased in sophistication, so we are catching more accounts even as we believe there are more attempts to send bulk or automated messages.”
In its report, WhatsApp shared that the global average is about 8 million accounts banned per month, which is to say that bans in India (most of which were for bulk messaging or spam) accounted for a fourth of all the bans in the world.
This is not surprising given that India is the largest market for WhatsApp — some industry estimates suggest that India accounts for almost 400 million users, of the 2 billion active users worldwide, or approximately one user from India out of every five that WhatsApp has.
WhatsApp added that subsequent editions of the data transparency report will be published 30-45 days after the reporting period, to allow sufficient time for data collection and validation.
Virgin Media has confirmed it is working to restore network connectivity to homes, businesses and schools across south-east London after an underground electrical power explosion damaged the network cabling it runs through the area.
The ISP confirmed to Computer Weekly that it is working with UK Power Networks, the organisation responsible for maintaining and managing the electrical network in that part of London, to restore network connectivity to those affected.
“We are aware of an incident on the UK Power Networks electricity network which has damaged some of our underground cables and is causing a loss of services for some customers in the Lewisham area,” said a Virgin Media spokesperson.
“Our engineers are on site and are working closely with UK Power Networks to restore services as quickly as possible. We apologise to the customers affected and are working as quickly as possible to repair the damaged cables.”
Those affected by the incident include schools across Lewisham, Bexley, Southwark and Greenwich, which are part of the London Grid for Learning (LGfL) education consortium, an organisation concerned with improving the quality of network access to thousands schools across the capital.
In a statement to Computer Weekly, the LGfL said it had told its schools to brace themselves for “at least” 24 hours of service disruption because of the explosion, which it described as causing “significant collateral damage” to the area’s network fibre cabling.
“Unfortunately, due to the location of the explosion, which is under a busy roundabout, fixing this damage is likely to take at least 24 hours, given the need to make the area safe and the scale of the follow-up remedial work needed to repair cabling and infrastructure damaged by the original explosion,” said a spokesperson for the LGfL.
At the time of writing, Computer Weekly was awaiting confirmation from UK Power Networks about the root cause of the incident, and when it hopes to have the problem remedied.
