iOS 14.7 Battery Life Drain: How Does It Affect Performance?
iOS 14.7 Battery Life Drain: How Does It Affect Performance?

Here’s iOS 14.7 battery life drain on iPhone and how does it affect performance on some of Apple’s most used iOS devices.

Apple released iOS 14.7 to the public just a couple of days ago, and while people are always keen to install new updates there are always two questions — does the update impact battery life, and how does it change performance? That’s something YouTuber iAppleBytes also wondered, so they set about finding out the answers.

iOS 14.7 Battery Life Drain: How Does It Affect Performance?

A new YouTube video puts an iPhone SE, iPhone 6S, iPhone 7, iPhone 8, iPhone XR, iPhone 11, and 2020 iPhone SE through their paces using Geekbench to see exactly how iOS 14.7 performs. As always, the video was shot after iOS 14.7 was given a chance to settle down, too.

This video was shot 3 days after iOS 14.7 was installed, so it had time to settle in. I have seen many comments that it takes about a week for battery performance to optimize itself after an iOS update. I have always been skeptical of this statement as I have never personally had bad battery life right after I update. If I restore and download backup from iCloud well then that is another story. So I decided to run the battery test 4 days after I updated them. In those 3 days they were just idling with power connected. So let’s run the battery test again, and see if we will get some different results this time around.

Apple has had some pretty bad iOS updates of late in terms of battery performance, so it will be hoping that things are much more promising this time around. That’s something users will be keen to find out as well, so this video is well timed.

We aren’t going to spoil the outcome because the video is worth watching if you’re at all concerned about battery life and performance. Check it out before updating to IOS 14.7 if that’s you!

Google to Fix Chrome OS Bug Causing Users to Lock Out of Their Chromebooks
Google to Fix Chrome OS Bug Causing Users to Lock Out of Their Chromebooks

Google has pulled the last Chrome OS update that was causing users to lock out of their Chromebooks due to a major bug and announced the development of its fix that is expected to release later today (July 21). The issue emerged after users downloaded Chrome OS version 91.0.4472.165. It restricted users from logging back to their accounts on Chromebook after installation. In some cases, the update even caused bootlooping and was not allowing users to access even the lock screen.

On its system status page, Google acknowledged the problem and said that its engineering team halted the rollout of the update. The company also promised to release a new version that would fix the issue.

Android Central reports that the bug in the Chrome OS update was not allowing users to log back into their Chromebooks after installation and was even causing bootloop in some cases.

Although the new Chrome OS release to fix the issue has been confirmed, Google has also provided a couple of workarounds to temporarily resolve the problem. The company said that users can “powerwash” their Chromebook, which simply means they need to factory reset their device. This will, however, clear all the data stored locally.

Specifically for users who are not even able to access the lock screen due to bootlooping, they need to roll back the update with a recovery USB key. This will also clear the local data from the machine.

Once the updated version is available, affected users need to either leave their Chromebooks on the login screen to download the update via auto-update or update them manually after logging into Guest Mode.

This is not the first time when a Chrome OS update has caused issues for Chromebook users. In fact, a broken update was released just earlier this month that Google had pulled after users reported performance throttling on their devices.

Here Is How You Can Use Instagram’s New Collab Feature to Co-Author Content
Here Is How You Can Use Instagram’s New Collab Feature to Co-Author Content

Instagram has announced the launch of a new feature called Collab, which is being rolled out in India. Using Collab, people can now invite another account to be shown as a collaborator on the feed posts or reels that they create, and the content will be shared to both sets of followers. India is one of the two countries where Instagram is testing the feature right now.

According to the Facebook-owned social media company, users can invite a collaborator to their posts and reels using the Collab feature. If they accept the invite, then the collaborator will be shown as an author and the content will be shared to their profile grid as well, increasing the audience for the content.

How can you use Collab?

The feature hasn’t rolled out worldwide yet. If you are an Instagram user from India, check out following steps on how to use Collab:

  1. Upload a Feed post or create a Reel as you normally would.
  2. When you get to the end of your share screen, you’ll see the option to Tag People.
  3. Tap on Tag People to invite a collaborator by tapping on Invite Collaborator.
  4. You can now search for an account and add them as a collaborator. Note that the account will need to accept your invite. Only public accounts that have also receiving the feature as a part of the test rollout can be invited to Collab or co-author the post.
  5. Once the account has accepted the collaboration invite, they will be added to the tag screen and it is also noted in the header of your post.

Earlier in July, Facebook also announced its plan to spend $1 billion (roughly Rs. 7,450 crores) on social media creators through the end of 2022. The social media giant had announced that the investments will include bonus programmes to pay creators who hit certain milestones on its apps, including Instagram.

52 Years of Apollo 11: NASA Shares Image of Man’s First Step on Moon
52 Years of Apollo 11: NASA Shares Image of Man’s First Step on Moon

NASA has shared the image that got carved out on the lunar surface and in the history of space exploration when Neil Armstrong put his left foot on the surface of the Moon on July 20, 1969 — the first human footprint there. “What was only one small step 52 years ago, has inspired a lifetime of wonder,” the space agency said in a post on Instagram, alongside one of the most defining images of the last century. Armstrong, Edwin (Buzz) Aldrin, and Michael Collins were on the Apollo 11 Mission.

However, only Armstrong and Aldrin took the Lunar Module, named Eagle, to the Moon and they left Collins in orbit. In the post, NASA added, “On this day, we celebrate the Moon landing and salute the heroes, visionaries, and explorers who not only made the seemingly impossible, possible – but inspired us to return.” The space agency also mentioned its plans “to take the next giant leap”, which is “landing the first woman and first person of colour on the Moon”.

The historic image of Neil Armstrong’s left foot has got more than 16 lakh likes within 11 hours of being shared.

Here’s the post:

The two astronauts walked on the Moon, picked up rocks and dirt to bring back to Earth. Interestingly, the two astronauts had taken TV cameras with them and beamed images from there so that people all around the world could watch the historic event. In an interview in 2001, Armstrong had words of praise for the “hundreds of thousands” of people involved in the project and made it a success.

On July 20, NASA, in a post on Twitter, shared a clip where the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter zoomed into the Apollo 11 Landing Site. “Look closely & you can see the astronauts’ tracks, still there after all this time!” NASA tweeted.

A few days ago, Aldrin had tweeted a photograph of the three astronauts from their “last news conference before launching to the Moon”.

Alex Scott will be in FIFA 22 – “It’s an honour to be part of the FIFA gaming institution”
Alex Scott will be in FIFA 22 – “It’s an honour to be part of the FIFA gaming institution”

Football broadcasting duo Alex Scott and Stewart Robson will both feature in FIFA 22, EA has confirmed today, with both set to feature within FIFA 22’s new look in-game broadcast team.

Former Arsenal, West Ham and Coventry player Robson will replace Lee Dixon as the game’s UK default co-commentator for FIFA 22 alongside lead commentator Derek Rae, who replaced Martin Tyler and Alan Smith in FIFA 21.

Former Arsenal and England international Scott will also feature in FIFA 22 in a Geoff Shreeves-style pitch-side reporter role, replacing former pitch-side reporter Alan McInally, with the current BBC Sport and Sky Sports pundit becoming the first British female voice ever to feature in an EA Sports FIFA video game.

* Click here to subscribe to Level up! The Esports and Gaming Show, the podcast is available on Spreaker, Spotify, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts.*

Former Arsenal player Scott has been a regular pundit BBC Sport and CBS Sports, as well as recently being announced as the new host of Football Focus, replacing Dan Walker on the show.

“This is a big moment for FIFA, for football and women and girls across the world,” said Alex Scott.

“Representation is crucial and the inclusion of an English-speaking female commentator on FIFA is game-changing. The impact it will have is simply stratospheric.

Alex Scott will feature in FIFA 22 as a pitch-side reporter

“It’s a big moment for me personally and professionally. It’s an honour to be part of the FIFA gaming institution, alongside some of my brilliant presenting colleagues.

“Whilst I am the first English-speaking female broadcaster to feature in FIFA, I will certainly not be the last. I know this is just the start of stronger female footballing representation from EA SPORTS and the football community as a whole.”

“Alex is an inspirational voice in the world of football, as she continues to evolve her talent from the pitch to the studio,” said David Jackson, VP Brand EA SPORTS FIFA.

“Authenticity and immersion are at the core of what makes FIFA special, so we’re thrilled to include Alex’s experience and insight in FIFA 22, as part of our English Language commentary team.”

Spanish presenter Nira Juanco became the very first female commentator in FIFA history in FIFA 21, with fans able to hear her voice in the Spanish commentary option, but UK players had to download this separately within the settings menu.

In FIFA 21, there was no option to select an alternative commentary duo for your in-game audio.

If you went into the settings in FIFA 21, fans only had the option to change the language and not commentary teams, which means only one commentary team is available per language. EA has not confirmed yet whether this will be the case in FIFA 22.

UK players will hear the familiar voice of Derek Rae who has been a feature of the in-game commentary team for the previous two FIFA titles, and Robson who is a Scottish commentator who currently commentates for ESPN US and BT Sport.

FIFA 22 will be released in the UK and worldwide on Friday, October 1, 2021, EA has confirmed. There are two versions of FIFA 22 that are available to pre-order now, the Standard Edition and the Ultimate Edition.

The Standard Edition of FIFA 22 will follow the worldwide release date, but the Ultimate Edition offers four days early access, which means players will be able to play the game from Monday, September 27, 2021.

Players who pre-order the Ultimate Edition of FIFA 22 will also receive a FUT Heroes Player item (Limited Time Offer) a Ones to Watch Player item, Dual Entitlement, 4600 FIFA Points, Team of the Week 1 Player item, Kylian Mbappé Loan item, FUT Ambassador Loan Player Pick and a Career Mode Homegrown Talent.

Details are scarce, but one thing we do know is that OnePlus will officially take the wraps off the OnePlus Nord 2 5G on 22 July. To catch the launch live, you can head to the official OnePlus Youtube channel here. Be sure to hit the ‘set reminder’ button so you’re notified in time for the launch.

While you wait, you can also head here on your smartphone (via Safari or Chrome) to enjoy some AR games celebrating the launch. Do well and you’ll be entered into a lucky draw where you stand to win a Nord 2 5G as well as any number of other goodies!

What we know

From the teased images, it’s apparent that the Nord 2 boasts of a familiar design and triple camera set up on the rear. The few details that have been confirmed indicate that, like the Nord before it, we can expect a 6.43-inch 90 Hz fluid AMOLED display with HDR support.

50 MP camera

The rear cameras get a significant upgrade in the form of a 50 MP primary camera based on Sony’s IMX 766 sensor. This camera features larger pixels — which should translate to slightly improved low light performance and overall image quality — and has OIS. The specs of the two remaining cameras are yet to be confirmed, but it’s safe to assume that we’ll be getting an ultra-wide and a macro.

MediaTek Dimensity 1200-AI chip

What’s more interesting is the chipset that powers this phone. Unlike last year’s Snapdragon 765, the Nord 2 gets a big upgrade in the form of the MediaTek Dimensity 1200-AI SoC that OnePlus worked with MediaTek to enhance.

The base chip features an 8-core CPU — an ARM Cortex-A78 Ultra Core, 3x ARM Cortex-A78 performance cores, and 4x ARM Cortex-A55 efficiency cores — paired with a Mali-G77 MC9 GPU. The chipset supports dual-SIM 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, quad-channel memory and dual-channel UFS 3.1 storage.

The chipset can handle 4K ‘stacked’ HDR video recording so it’s safe to assume that the OnePlus Nord 2 5G will as well.

OnePlus hasn’t confirmed RAM and storage specs for the Nord 2 5G, but we can expect the new phone to at least match the previous phone’s 12 GB RAM and 256 GB of UFS 2.1 storage options.

As it stands, OnePlus claims that the new chip offers 65% faster CPU and 125% faster GPU performance when compared to the previous Nord.

Working with MediaTek, OnePlus has taken the regular Dimensity 1200 and incorporated new AI features. Primarily, these hardware-accelerated AI features deal with image processing, stabilisation, and night mode. Features like AI Color Boost and Resolution scaling are also present and are supposed to enhance the ‘display experience’. We assume that this refers to the quality of the images you see on the display.

Lastly, battery life. Again, there are no official details out on this front, but we should expect the Nord 2 to at least match the previous Nord and offer something larger than 4,000 mAh with support for 30 W fast charging.

Vehicle Diagnostic Software: How to Detect Car Trouble Before It Costs You
Vehicle Diagnostic Software: How to Detect Car Trouble Before It Costs You

Technological advancement has made the world a better place through easy and faster means in various aspects of life. In the medical sector, we do regular check-ups one way or the other with our physicians or doctors to maintain good health, right? We undergo different tests through several machines and equipment, in the process of living a better and healthier life.

Now, when it comes to automobile the same wear and tear happens to the vehicles, such that regular diagnostic tests provides great help in detecting problems or malfunctions before they require costly repairs, or at the worst instance, breaking down at the wrong time.

Though, the majority of vehicle owners have diagnostic tests, it has become a norm whereby vehicle owners only take their vehicle to the automobile shop when it has broken down or when it can no longer function properly.

But there are many benefits in taking a foresight maintenance approach to your vehicle using standardized software and most importantly car diagnostic tools which include the advantage of detecting issues— practically revealing problems within a vehicle’s engine function, exhaust properties, and other major parts, long before they prompt a breakdown.

Presently, there have been several codes or programs that have been enacted in the system software that is used for diagnosis which tells the mechanics or technicians exactly what is not in place more like a hint of the cause.

Afterwards, they use their expertise to deduce the fundamental problem and probable solutions.

Most standardized system software requires codes and programming to give the exact function it is expected to provide. The DTC codes produce five long characters such that each of them gives different pieces of information about the vehicle’s situation.

The first character, which is always a letter, suggests the particular control system that has an issue and gives logical meanings for it.

The second character is often a digit, commonly 0 (it applies to all models of vehicles) or 1(it’s unique to a specific vehicle model), and it indicates if the code is standardized or not.

The third character is also mostly a digit, that ranges from 1 to 8. This particular character, discloses the subsystem that is at fault.

Both the fourth and fifth characters are examined together as a two-digit number that are between 0 and 99, also known as the specific fault index.  All these DTC characters recognize the specific issue of the vehicle.

Here are some system software that can assist in vehicle diagnosis:

ProScan allows users to generate diagnostics reports for a vehicle using codes. It’s in this system software that diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) come into the effect when paired with a scanner that plugs directly into the vehicle’s port.

Furthermore, when a car’s check engine light comes off, a vehicle will save a code that recognizes the problem detected by the (DTC) that conforms to a specific vehicle faulty functioning.

Also, the tool will provide a list of such diagnostic trouble codes saved with its explanation, so the user can detect the difficulty and where the issue is. Diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) are also called engine vehicle fault codes and can be read.

This software application displays vehicle sensors in real-time and saves them in a file.

But just as vehicle configuration differs the way you see the car speed, engine speed and temperature, inlet air quantity, torque.

The users of the software can bring about diagnostics of a vehicle using the faults of codes and discover their meaning, through which they can also check the engine pointer light and monitor specific manufacturer error codes.

This is a developed OBD2 car diagnostics tool. It is one of the best OBD software for the OS X platform. The Auto Doctor, being one of the advanced software, allows the user to communicate with their vehicles’ onboard diagnostic system. Through this, the device whether a desktop computer, laptop, or mobile phone becomes a competent automotive scanner.

All these software and DTC can be used on any automobile, even giving the ease of transferring from one vehicle to the other.

Nonetheless, through the OBD port located in the vehicle dashboard or steering wheel, depending on the manufacturer or model of the vehicle, the user would be able to get informed when an action is performed on the vehicle.

It would only seem right to mention WWH-OBD, which stands for Worldwide Harmonized On-board diagnostics.

It is a standardized international version of the Onboard vehicle diagnostics system, and it is based on the ISO standard- ISO 27145, which was implemented by the United Nations as an aspect of Global Technical Regulations (GTR).

This version is used to monitor vehicles data also as a means of communication between the vehicle’s onboard diagnostic system software and superficial test equipment.

Worldwide Harmonized In-board diagnostics grants access to additional data types, accordingly, OBD-II uses a two-byte diagnostic trouble code (DTC) to reveal when a fault came about which gives it the skill to give more detailed fault.

In overview, WWH-OBD enhances the existing OBD II framework to provide even more diagnostic information to the user.

The PCMSCAN is a diagnostic tool that operates through an OBD2 hardware interconnection with its software system that is based on codes and programs.

Being a general automobile diagnostic scanner and tool that maintains a broad diversity and also enables playback, viewing, creating charts, based on the diagnostics data in the vehicle’s OBD2 diagnostic data position.

When using this system software to diagnose a vehicle, there are basic steps that should be followed. Which includes;

Locating your vehicle’s PCM: You should know that as vehicle models vary to one another, so does the PCM location in most vehicles differs. Thus, to know the exact location of the PCM, you should check out your vehicle’s manual. But in most cases, the PCM is found behind the engine compartment or beneath the dashboard on the passenger’s side.

Gaze intently at the wiring harness which is located underneath the driver’s dashboard alongside the diagnostic port should be able to relate with the sensors of the system software throughout the vehicle.

Connect your OBD-II scanner to the diagnostic data port. The port which might be visible in some vehicles is possible to be hidden in some.

You insert your key into the vehicle’s ignition column. Turn on the key and watch as the codes appear through the OBD2 (an improved On-board Diagnosis) device. Look at each code and note the ones that show the signs you’re looking for.

It is now left for you to determine whether the PCM problems can be addressed without a mechanic, such that all it needs is a restart and reconnect.

In Conclusion

People have made it a usual style of bringing their vehicles to the mechanic after a total breakdown or severe malfunction.

But because diagnostic tests have been computerized on vehicles, it makes it easier and faster to detect problems in them and provide the necessary solutions to them.

However possible, the diagnosis system software is capable of performing GPS tracking and resetting DTC when a fault code has been noticed.
