According to the report from Sensor Tower, Garena Free Fire, a popular battle royale game racked up 34 million installs in October. Out of these, 30 percent of these downloads were from India, while 12 percent were from Brazil. Free Fire currently has more than one billion downloads on the Play Store and is currently at the top of the ‘Top Grossing’ games list in India. On the App Store, however, League of Legends: Wild Rift was the most downloaded app, while Free Fire landed in the last position.

Rival PUBG Mobile was a distant eighth on the list of the most downloaded games in October, according to the report. Other games that made it to the list were Candy Challenge 3D, Roblox, Subway Surfers, and Candy Crush Saga. Netflix’s popular TV series Squid Game helped games like Candy Challenge 3D, Cookie Carver, and 456 make their way to the top ten downloaded games of the month.

Honor of Kings was the top-grossing mobile game worldwide in October, according to another report by Sensor Tower. The game raked in $329 million (roughly Rs. 2,445 crore), while PUBG Mobile from Tencent made $197 million (roughly Rs. 1,465 crore) in gross revenue, according to the report. Fifty-one percent of PUBG Mobile’s earnings were from China, where the game is published under a different title — Game for Peace. India retained the top spot as the number one market for global game downloads in October, accounting for 762.6 million installs. These downloads from India made up 16.8 percent of 4.5 billion downloads across the worldwide mobile games market in October. The US was in second position with 8.6 percent of total downloads, followed closely by Brazil at 8.3 percent. In terms of revenue, the US continues to remain the number one market for global revenue, with over $2.1 billion (roughly Rs. 15,615 crore), or 28.3 percent of the total money spent in games worldwide, according to the report.

Nearly 24 Million Wearables Shipped in India in Q3 2021: IDC

Wearables market in India that consists of smartwatches, earbuds, and wristbands grew by 93.8 percent year-on-year (YoY) in the third quarter of 2021, according to a report. While smartwatches continued to be the fastest-growing category in the quarter between July and September, truly wireless stereo (TWS) earbuds helped push the growth of the earwear category. Indian brands such as Noise, Boat, Fire-Boltt, Ptron, and Titan emerged among the top vendors in the wearables market — alongside their global counterparts Amazfit, OnePlus, Realme, Samsung, and Xiaomi.

Market research firm International Data Corporation (IDC) reports that wearables shipments in India reached 23.8 million units in the third quarter. In September alone, the firm said that shipments surpassed the 10 million mark that showed two-fold growth from the same month last year.

In terms of segments, smartwatches retained their fastest-growth in the Indian wearables market with 4.3 million shipments and a whopping 456.3 percent YoY change recorded in the third quarter. The earwear segment, on the other hand, grew 77.9 percent YoY with 39.5 percent market share.

Indian brands comprising Noise, Boat, and Fire-Boltt captured over two-thirds of the total smartwatch market, the firm said in its report.

Gurugram-headquartered Noise maintained the leadership for the sixth straight quarter, with a 26 percent market share in the quarter ending September 30. It was followed by Boat with 23.1 percent. After Boat, it was Fire-Boltt that replaced Xiaomi-backed Huami for the third position and captured a market share of 15.3 percent in the third quarter — up from 5.5 percent in the previous quarter, IDC said.

Alongside the Indian brands, Realme entered the fourth position, while Amazfit maintained its fifth place.

Amazfit (Zepp) 4.8% 9.3% 139.7%
Others 23.5% 25.0% 263.6%

“Aggressive intent to maintain their lead helped them to further reduce the average selling price of watches to $73 (roughly Rs. 5,400), putting immense pressure on a struggling wrist band category,” said Anisha Dumbre, Market Analyst for Client Devices, IDC India.

Unlike smartwatches, wristbands saw an annual decline for the seventh consecutive quarter. The overall wristwear segment that comprises smartwatches and wristbands crossed the five million shipments mark in a single quarter, the firm said.

Xiaomi maintained the lead in the wristband market segment, with 49.9 percent share. It, however, saw a 27.2 percent dip in its YoY growth in the third quarter. After Xiaomi, Titan came second with 16.7 percent share. OnePlus, on the other hand, came third with 10.8 percent share in the quarter.

Others 22.7% 18.1% -54.9%

In the earwear segment, TWS earbuds, neckbands, and wireless over-the-ear headphones have clocked 18.7 million units in the third quarter. Boat led the segment with 48 percent share, followed by Realme and OnePlus. Samsung that includes JBL, Harman Kardon, and Infinity, on the other front, came fourth and Ptron retained its fifth position.

IDC said that a total of 7.4 million TWS earbuds were shipped in the market, growing 70.5 percent YoY in the third quarter. As much as 86.4 percent of the total TWS earbuds shipments fall under the $50 (roughly Rs. 3,700) pricing.

Total TWS earbuds shipped the market captured a 39.5 percent share of the overall earwear segment in the third quarter, the firm said. Boat led the TWS category, with a 37.3 percent share.

“Celebrity endorsements are a key tactic for brand recall. However, to maintain the growth momentum they must invest more in newer designs and aesthetics, as well as newer collaborations with existing franchises. This can help create unique product experiences that will not only help associate with new customers but can also open new avenues to sell these products,” said Jaipal Singh, Research Manager of Client Devices, IDC India.

Nvidia/Arm: Competitions and Markets Authority to drill down further in Phase 2 investigation

Digital secretary Nadine Dorries has asked the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) to carry out a Phase 2 investigation into Nvidia’s takeover of Arm on national security and competition grounds.

In September last year, Nvidia announced its plans to acquire Cambridge-based Arm for $31bn to flesh out its artificial intelligence (AI) strategy. At the time, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said: “We would like to create the computing company for the age of AI.”

Chips based on Arm’s intellectual property (IP) power smartphones and internet of things (IoT) devices in homes, cars and businesses.

In August, the CMA completed  an initial investigation of the Nvida/Arm deal and found that the transaction raised the possibility of a “substantial lessening of competition across four key markets” – datacentres, IoT, the automotive sector and gaming applications.

The full Phase 1 report has now been published. Among its key findings is that Arm’s CPU IP is an important input for SmartNIC suppliers, and that Arm has market power in relation to the supply of CPU IP for SmartNICs given its predominance, the lack of credible alternatives and the difficulties for licensees to switch suppliers.

Although not all individual devices relying on Arm-based chips are necessarily classed as “critical” in themselves, Dorries believes the security and resilience of the broader supply chain is important for UK national security.

She said: “I have carefully considered the Competition and Markets Authority’s ‘Phase 1’ report into Nvidia’s proposed takeover of Arm and have decided to ask them to undertake a further in-depth ‘Phase 2’ investigation.

“Arm has a unique place in the global technology supply chain and we must make sure the implications of this transaction are fully considered. The CMA will now report to me on competition and national security grounds and provide advice on the next steps.

“The government’s commitment to our thriving tech sector is unwavering and we welcome foreign investment, but it is right that we fully consider the implications of this transaction.”

In the Phase 1 report, the CMA found significant competition concerns as a result of the effect of limiting the supply of CPUs, interconnect products, GPUs and SoCs (systems on a chip) to rival chipmakers. The specific areas of concern for the CMA cover: the supply of CPUs for datacentre servers globally; the supply of network-interface controllers for datacentre connectivity; the supply of GPUs for datacentre servers and the supply of SoCs components.

As regards SoCs, the CMA was concerned that the deal could impact: the supply of SoCs for high-performance IoT applications; automotive applications such as advanced driver assistance systems applications and information and entertainment applications; and the supply of SoCs for gaming consoles.

The CMA will now lead the Phase 2 investigation covering both competition and national security. It will have 24 weeks – subject to a possible eight-week extension – to conduct this investigation and deliver a final report to the digital secretary.

Coinbase Co-Founder Led Venture Capital Firm Raises $2.5 Billion

Coinbase co-founder Fred Ehrsam and ex-Sequoia Capital Partner Matt Huang have raised $2.5 billion (roughly Rs. 18,598 crore) for a venture capital fund aimed at the “next generation of crypto companies and protocols” called Paradigm One, making it the biggest crypto VC fund. Paradigm One was launched in 2018 with an initial $400 million (roughly Rs. 2,976 crore), and the eventual amount raised is double the initial investment goal for the VC fund.

The size of Paradigm’s fund highlights the anticipation of a major boom in the crypto industry among investors. “This new fund and its size are reflective of crypto being the most exciting frontier in technology. Over the past decade, crypto has come a long way,” Ehrsham and Huang wrote in a blog post on Monday. The three-year-old firm’s fundraising overtakes VC firm Andreessen Horowitz’s $2.2 billion (roughly Rs. 16,370 crore) fund earlier in 2021 amid record-breaking venture capital raising activity this year.

Paradigm invests in crypto startups big and small, valued at as much as $100 million-plus, down to $1 million (roughly Rs. 7.4 crore), the company’s website says. The fund will invest in startups with “just a glimmer of an idea” as well as later-stage companies, Ersham and Huang said.

The San Francisco-based investment firm lists the decentralised finance (DeFi) space and Web3 applications, which refer to apps built on blockchain platforms, as two areas primed for investment.

In an interview with Financial Times, Ehrsam (who co-founded Coinbase) said token-based apps, in particular, have room to grow and that “decades into the future, it’s very clear the largest entities in the world will be powered by tokens,” just as the world’s biggest Internet companies are currently powered by networks.

As per market data provider Pitchbook, in the first three quarters of 2021, venture capitalists poured a record $21.4 billion (roughly Rs. 1,59,172 crore) into cryptocurrency and blockchain-focused companies across 1,196 deals — marking a five-time increase year-on-year.

Amazfit GTS 3 review: Old Wine in a New Bottle

There’s plenty of choice if you are looking for a smartwatch for fitness tracking priced at or below Rs. 15,000. While most smartwatches and fitness trackers at this price level won’t offer Google’s Wear OS ecosystem, you can find products that deliver a lot of value in terms of hardware, features, and more importantly, battery life.

With that in mind, Amazfit’s GTS 3 is a very capable fitness tracker. There’s a new display, new software, a refreshed design, and a digital crown for navigation, but all of these seem to have come at a cost. The tiny jump in battery capacity means that this model is positioned below the GTR 3 and GTR 3 Pro. The GTS 3 also lacks Bluetooth calling and internal storage, which were available on the GTS 2 (Review). Considering these minor updates and the missing features, should you choose the Amazfit GTS 3, or are there better fitness trackers at this price?

Amazfit GTS 3 price in India

The Amazfit GTS 3 is priced at Rs. 13,999 in India. It’s available in a single version, and has no user-accessible internal storage. There are three finishes to choose from: Graphite Black, Ivory White, and Terra Rosa. I received a Terra Rosa GTS 3 unit for review. It comes with a silicon strap and a magnetic charging base in the box.

Amazfit GTS 3 design and specifications

The Amazfit GTS 3 looks very similar to the GTS 2. The single pusher on the right side of the GTS 2 has now been upgraded to a navigation crown, which can be used as a home button when pressed and released quickly, and shows you a list of apps with a second press. Its primary purpose is to let you scroll through lists and pages, and it generates haptic feedback as you do that. Long-pressing the crown lets you access any function of your choosing. I set it to pull up Amazon Alexa’s voice interface.

Amazfit GTS3 side crown ndtv AmazfitGTS3 Amazfit

The navigation crown provides haptic feedback while scrolling through lists

The navigation crown works much like the one on Apple Watches, but it’s not as refined from a software perspective. Twisting the crown with the watch unlocked results in haptic feedback with the linear vibration motor, but this feels more like vibrations than mechanical clicks. Scrolling feels responsive, but the crown is very sensitive, which makes it a bit annoying to scroll to an exact item in a list or a page in an app. There’s always a bit of adjustment required to reach a spot. Since the UI does not have a selection system or a highlight to show selected items in a list or in an app, you have to take your finger off the crown and tap on the display to select something, which I found counterintuitive. After a few days of use, I ended up using the touchscreen display for navigation most of the time, as all apps and functions work well with gestures. You will only really need the navigation crown to access the list of apps when you are at the watch face.

The Amazfit GTS 3 features a 1.75-inch OLED display with a resolution of 390×450 pixels. It has a slim bezel all around. The front glass is tempered for protection and also has an anti-fingerprint coating, which worked well throughout the review period.

Amazfit GTS3 front straps detatched ndtv AmazfitGTS3 Amazfit

The smartwatch comes with a silicon strap which is quite comfortable

The 42mm watch case is rectangular with rounded corners and is made of aluminium alloy. At just 24.4g (without straps) it feels very light and almost like a smart band. The device is water-resistant up to 5ATM, so you will be able to take it for a swim. There is no speaker but you do get a mic that can be used for voice commands for the built-in voice assistant or Amazon’s Alexa.

The bottom of the case is made of plastic and has the sensors for heart rate and SpO2 tracking. Above and below them are two metal contacts that connect to the magnetic charging base. The watch comes with a silicon strap that can be attached and removed easily with quick-release pins. The strap feels soft and has a classic pin buckle that remained secure and never came off accidentally during the review period. I had no trouble wearing the GTS 3 all day and even sleeping while wearing it.

The Amazfit GTS 3 communicates with its phone app, called Zepp, via Bluetooth. The watch does not have built-in Wi-Fi so it cannot directly connect to the Internet. There’s no local storage like on the GTS 2, so storing music on the watch is not possible. Because of its slim overall design (8.8mm thick), Amazfit engineers only managed to squeeze in a 250mAh battery. This is still a minor upgrade over the 246mAh battery on the GTS 2, but it’s only close to half the capacities that the GTR 3 and the GTR 3 Pro models have.

Amazfit GTS 3 software

Amazfit, with its new GTS 3 and GTR 3 models, has upgraded to a new software platform called Zepp OS. This is a custom operating system and communicates with the Zepp app on an Android or iOS smartphone. I tested the GTS 3 with a Google Pixel 4a, and right off the bat, I noticed that I was not able to receive any app notifications. The solution was to turn off battery optimisations for the Zepp companion app. This basically makes the Zepp app remain in memory and run in the background indefinitely (good or bad, you decide). Post this, I had to select all the apps I wanted to receive notifications from, and then I was good to go.

Amazfit GTS3 back charging ndtv AmazfitGTS3 Amazfit

The bottom of the case is made of plastic and has two metal contacts for charging in addition to the health tracking sensors

The UI is quite basic, and navigating through it on the GTS 3 is fairly easy to understand. From the watch face, you can swipe right to open Shortcut Cards, swipe left to access preselected widgets (which Amazfit calls Quick Access Apps), swipe up to see your notifications, and swipe down to access important settings. There are buttons here to let you quickly toggle DND and Theatre modes, adjust the display brightness, and more.

The Shortcut Cards section is a customisable list of apps that show relevant information and actions. I could interact with these, for example to take a quick heart rate reading or glance through a weather forecast. A tap on each one will open its respective app. The Quick Access Apps (or widgets) on the other hand relay information from the built-in apps in a visually appealing way. Indeed, both these sections ended up showing the same information in different ways, so choosing which way to go from the watch face is mainly about how you like to view such information.

There are plenty of built-in apps, and Amazfit has an App Store in the Zepp companion app that lets you download some additional mini apps. These range from extremely useful, such as the Watch Storage Space app, to something as useless as the Brush Teeth app that tells you how to brush your teeth. The apps in this mini store don’t come from third-party developers, so they all look consistent and stick to the overall design and theme of the Zepp OS interface.

Amazfit GTS3 front storage ndtv AmazfitGTS3 Amazfit

The watch does have a bit of internal storage, but it’s not accessible to the user

The Storage Space app let me know that I had about 3GB of internal storage, of which I had used about 784MB after two weeks. It’s a bit odd that Amazfit does not let users do anything with the other 2GB of local storage, such as storing music.

The watch has two voice assistants. There’s one that is developed by Amazfit and the other which is by Amazon. Amazfit’s own voice assistant works offline (and is even called Offline Voice Control) but is very limited in terms of capabilities and requires very specific commands. Most of the time it opened the wrong app because it could not understand my commands correctly. In contrast, Amazon’s Alexa is a lot smarter, but needs to be connected to the internet to operate.

Positives aside, there are a few things that I did not like about the Amazfit GTS 3. The built-in watch faces (and those from the Zepp store) do show complications (data from apps) and even let you customise what data you want to see in them. However, tapping on these complications will not take you to their respective apps. Clearing notifications from the notifications tray is not a good experience. Instead of being able to simply swipe away a particular notification, I had to open each one, tap on a delete button (located at the end of the message), and then swipe right to get back to the notifications tray. This has to be done for each notification individually. Notifications from some apps such as WhatsApp do not show up with an icon, so it’s hard to tell which app or service they came from.

Amazfit GTS3 front software ndtv AmazfitGTS3 Amazfit

The Amazfit GTS 3’s Zepp OS interface is fairly basic and easy to understand

There are other basic UI flaws too, like the inability to quickly access tools or apps that are active in the background. For example, if I start the stopwatch and then view a notification or open another app, I have to come back to the watch face, press the crown to show the app drawer, scroll down to the stopwatch app, open it, and then hit stop. A similar problem occurs when a workout is active – all other functions of the watch remain blocked (save for the drop-down notifications shade and music controls). You have to finish a workout in order to access other functions or tools. While this doesn’t matter if you are in the middle of an intense workout session, I could not access the watch during my daily walk or while jogging, forcing me to pull out my phone.

Amazfit GTS 3 performance and battery life

The whole OS appears to run smoothly, which makes it quite responsive, whether you are interacting with it using the navigation crown or the touchscreen. The AMOLED display got quite bright even in direct sunlight, and the black background that’s all over the UI helps text and graphics stand out.

If you do buy an Amazfit GTS 3, do remember to update it to the latest software version ( at the time of this review), which ran smoothly and was mostly bug-free, compared to the experience I had with the software that it came with out of the box.

Amazfit GTS3 front sleep ndtv AmazfitGTS3 Amazfit

Sleep tracking on the Amazfit GTS 3 was far from accurate

Most of the fitness tracking features were quite accurate, save for sleep tracking. The SpO2 reading was spot on when compared that of to a blood oximeter, and the watch was also quite quick to take measurements and display a reading. Heart rate readings were also quite accurate. There’s a nice One-tap Measuring feature that conducts a number of tests in one go. This takes about 45 seconds, so you will have to remain motionless for that long.

As for workouts, step tracking was impressively accurate. I counted 1,000 steps manually during my daily walk and the watch showed exactly 1,000 steps. This was with 2D tracking switched on; there’s also a 3D tracking mode that takes elevation into account. GPS tracking was also almost perfect, even though my route had a lot of trees and plenty of buildings.

While most of the tracking features were on point, sleep tracking was not. There are a couple of ground rules you need to keep in mind when reading sleep data. Daytime naps of less than 20 minutes do not get recorded. Sleep time between 10:00pm and 8:00am will only be counted as night sleep, including short naps.

I wore the watch to bed for a few nights and found that it was inaccurate for the most part, except for instances when I woke up during the night, which it detected accurately. The GTS 3 for some reason decided that I was in a light sleep state from 9:00pm to when I actually called it a day and shut my eyes at 12:30am. It even marked me as awake for a good 45 minutes before deep sleep and REM sleep began. My best guess is that it assumed that I was asleep when lying relatively motionless while watching movies. Regardless, it was still inaccurate.

Amazfit GTS3 front notification ndtv AmazfitGTS3 Amazfit

Notifications from some apps such as WhatsApp do not show up with an icon

As for the Amazfit GTS 3’s 250mAh battery, I tested this in two ways. With the Always-On Display (AOD) enabled plus regular heart rate, blood O2, and stress monitoring, all notifications switched on, and sleep monitoring with theatre mode turned on at night, this device lasted 3 days on a single charge. With no auto monitoring of any sort turned on, AOD switched off, and with all notifications enabled, a full charge stretched for about 5 days. While these numbers do sound impressive compared to an Apple Watch or a WearOS device which would have to be charged every night, Amazfit’s GTR 3 (which is priced the same as the GTS 3) and GTR 3 Pro (priced higher) have much bigger batteries and should last a lot longer. As for charging, the watch touched 53 percent in 30 minutes and took about 1 hour and 19 minutes to get to 100 percent, which is not bad.

The Amazfit GTS 3 is a minor update over the GTS 2 (Review), and is fine if you are in the market for a slim smartwatch that weighs only as much as a fitness band. Zepp OS is a smooth and fluid experience (with a few bugs), but the digital crown is very limited in terms of function. Fitness and health tracking is quite good save for sleep tracking, which was just not up to the mark. There’s no local storage (for music files or Bluetooth calling like on the GTS 2, which some might find to be a deal breaker. In short, if you own a GTS 2 (which currently retails at Rs. 11,999) there is no reason to upgrade to the GTS 3.

If you are looking for a budget-friendly smartwatch, there are several options to choose from at this price level. There’s Amazfit’s GTR 3, which offers a bigger battery and the same set of features at the same price. If you are looking for storage and a bigger battery, there’s the OnePlus Watch (Review) at Rs. 14,999. And if Wear OS is on your mind, then the Oppo Watch (41mm) (Rs. 14,999) might not be a bad idea.

PUBG: New State Hits 1 Crore Downloads on Google Play in Less Than a Week

PUBG: New State, the latest from the publisher of popular battle royale games including Battlegrounds Mobile India, has hit the one-crore download mark on the Google Play store in less than a week since its launch. The free-to-play battle royale game that launched for Android and iOS phones on November 11 features updated graphics, a new Troi map, as well as new vehicles. It is also set in the future, unlike the original PUBG game.

We had previously reported that PUBG: New State, which was launched last Thursday, had experienced technical issues right after it was launched, preventing players from joining the game for a few hours. However, that has not deterred gamers from downloading the game, which has now crossed the 10 million (one crore) download mark on the Google Play store. Its publisher Krafton is yet to announce how many downloads the game has racked up on the App Store meant for iPhone and iPad users. The game is currently allowing users to log in and gain rewards from the Cosplay Band Crate as part of the pre-season login event between November 11 and December 1.

The new battle royale title experienced some series issues after it was launched globally in 200 countries, including India. Users reported their devices were being bricked after downloading the game. Tipster Mukul Sharma had said that his device running Android 12 would not boot after installing PUBG: New State. Krafton in a statement to Gadgets 360 had responded by saying that it had conducted sufficient testing for devices with similar specifications to the Samsung Galaxy S7 (or devices with 2GB RAM) and confirmed smooth functionality of the game.

Over the weekend, Krafton also announced an optional update for gamers on Android devices carrying bug fixes for PUBG: New State. These include disabling the Vulkan graphics API for Poco series devices, which caused the game to crash and freeze while playing on some phones. The search function for the Invite to Team section has also been disabled for the time being, according to the company. Krafton has resolved a bug that prevented the game from showing a server when choosing the Closest Server function on Android phones, along with another zoom bug in Spectate Mode. Users who experienced general crashes or bugs on Realme devices should also update their game via the Google Play Store, according to the publisher.

Microsoft has surprised Halo fans by announcing an early launch of the multiplayer component — days ahead of the release of Halo Infinite that is launching on December 8. The new experience has been provided to Xbox as well as PC users. Due to its beta nature, the multiplayer release has some issues that are known to the developers and are expected to be fixed in the coming days.

As a result of the new announcement, you can experience Halo Infinite’s cross-platform multiplayer mode on your Xbox One, Xbox Series S|X, or PC. You can install the new offering on an Xbox console by going to the Store app. On a PC, it can be installed for free using the Xbox app for Windows.

Some users initially faced hiccups with the multiplayer release. However, the Halo Support team advised to restart the console or Xbox app on PC after downloading the game to overcome the issues. You can also file a Halo Support ticket if you face any problems.

It is important to note that Halo Infinite multiplayer requires gigabytes of data. You should, therefore, need a stable Internet connection for downloading the beta release.

The latest beta release includes a total of eleven different multiplayer modes between Arena and Big Team Battle. Each mode also has distinct challenges and victory conditions.

Microsoft’s 343 Industries, the developers of Halo Infinite, originally previewed the multiplayer mode in July. It also brought its preview for Xbox users in September. However, the exact details about the release of the multiplayer offering were not announced up until now.

The early dropping of Halo Infinite comes alongside the celebration of Xbox’s 20 years of debut. The game console was released alongside Halo: Combat Evolved — the first version in the series — back on November 15, 2001.

Google Reportedly Brings Ability to Install Apps on Android TV via Phones

Google is reportedly rolling out the ability to download Play store apps on Android TV sets from smartphones. This ability is rolling out as a server-side update and not all users can see it immediately. However, several users are now reporting of receiving this new ability to install apps to their Android TV directly from their phone. This ability has been available on Google Play’s Web version for quite a while now to allow it to push apps on Chromecasts and Shield TVs. The feature has now been expanded to smartphones as well.

Several users took to Reddit to report the arrival of this ability to download apps from smartphones for Android TVs. For those who have received this ability, are getting new options placed underneath the install button. Users can click on whether they want to install on the phone or on an Android TV which runs on the same Google account. If an app has been installed on all the devices, then Google marks the app as “Installed on all devices.” Similarly, if the app is downloaded on the phone, but not on the Android TV, then it will ask users to install it on the TV with an install button sitting next to the TV name.

Gadgets 360 was unable to verify the new feature on Google Play. Android Police reports that this is a server-side update and not every phone will have access to these new options immediately. This could likely work for Chromecast with Google TV and compatible Android TVs.

Chromecast with Google TV was announced back in October, featuring 4K HDR support and a dedicated remote control. The new Chromecast was more akin to Amazon Fire TV as it brings an Android TV interface and not just the ability to cast media on your TV. It supports 4K HDR at up to 60fps, Dolby Atmos, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Vision, DTSX, HDR10+, and H.265 streams.
