AI Can Help Reduce Backlog of Pending Cases: Law Minister Kiren Rijiju

[ad_1]

Law Minister Kiren Rijiju on Saturday said artificial intelligence could help in “surprising ways” to ensure sustainable justice delivery and reduce backlog of pending cases.

Addressing the concluding session of a Supreme Court-organised two-day Constitution Day event, he said artificial intelligence (AI) can help in implementing court management tools like case flow management, case management clearance rates, online information of case laws, and automated algorithm-based support system, which can all add to the efficiency of judicial functioning.

Since courts in India are already undergoing a transformational change by going digital, the emerging domain of AI could help in surprising ways to ensure sustainable justice delivery and reduce backlog of pending cases, the minister said.

He said machines, of course, cannot replace human judges, but they could assist judges in the decision-making process by giving calculated and unbiased opinions.

Synchronisation of AI with human wisdom can help bring speed to delivery of justice, Rijiju said.

President Ram Nath Kovind, Chief Justice of India N V Ramana, judges of the Supreme Court and high courts, among others, were present at the event.

Referring to concerns over pending cases in different courts, the minister said adequacy of judicial infrastructure is critical for reduction of pendency and backlog of cases in courts.

The present government, Rijiju said, is sensitive to the needs of providing well equipped judicial infrastructure to the subordinate judiciary to facilitate administration of justice in a manner that allows easy and timely delivery of justice to all.

The government is committed to investing maximum possible resources for building the next generation quality infrastructure so that they develop into engines of economic growth, he noted.

The role of the judiciary in the adjudication of infrastructure disputes and keeping the larger national interests in mind is crucial for the flow of the developmental trajectory and overall project costs, he said.

Referring to the alternative dispute resolution mechanism to lower the burden of courts, Rijiju said the central government has been taking various policy initiatives for promotion and strengthening of the mechanism, through amendments in existing laws. As a continuation of this exercise, bringing a standalone law on mediation is under consideration, he told the gathering.

Oppo Enco X, Enco Air, Enco Play Earbuds Getting Updated With New Features

[ad_1]

Oppo Enco X, Enco Air, and Enco Play true wireless stereo (TWS) earbuds are getting a software update in December that will bring features available on the Enco Free 2 and Enco Free 2i. One of the biggest additions will be the Double-Tap Camera Control that will let users capture images or record a video by double-tapping the earbuds. Oppo Enco Free 2 are also receiving a new software version that will bring dual-connectivity support to let you pair the earbuds with two devices simultaneously.

As announced on Weibo, the software update for the Oppo Enco X, Enco Air, Enco Play, and the Enco Free 2 will be released in China on December 1. It may take some time to reach users around the globe, though.

The update will enable the Enco X, Enco Air, and Enco Play with the Double-Tap Camera Control feature that debuted on the Enco Free 2 earlier this year. It allows users to record videos or capture a group picture or a selfie by double tapping the earbuds.

Oppo has made Double-Tap Camera Control as a feature specifically for its devices that are running on at least ColorOS 11.3. Users need to open the default camera app on their phone to access the gesture control.

Alongside Double-Tap Camera Control, the Oppo Enco X earbuds will receive the Personalised Sound Boost feature that was available on the Enco Free 2. It uses a software algorithm to adjust the audio playback based on your ears’ sensitivity.

The Personalised Sound Boost feature works with phones that are running on ColorOS, Android 6.0 and later, and iOS. For non-ColorOS phones, you need to install the HeyTap app to enable the personalised treatment.

Oppo is also updating the Enco Free 2 earbuds that were launched in May. The update designed for the new Enco model will bring dual-connectivity support that is already available on the newly launched Enco Free 2i. It will be enabled by default and will allow users to connect up to devices with the earbuds.

The feature works with both ColorOS and non-ColorOS devices, though the latter require the HeyTap app. The proprietary app is also the source for getting the firmware update on all Enco earbuds.

Vivo Y32 Specifications Suggested by TENAA Certification

[ad_1]

Vivo Y32 has purportedly surfaced on China’s TENAA with a look and feel similar to that of Vivo Y33s. The new Vivo phone appears to have a waterdrop-style display notch and multi-camera setup on the back. It also seems to have a gradient finish, which is a common characteristic among all budget and mid-range Vivo phones. Vivo Y32 may be positioned as a budget 4G phone by the Chinese company. Although details about its launch are yet to be revealed, the model may join the existing Vivo Y series in the coming future. Some of its specifications are also listed on the Chinese certification site to suggest its hardware ahead of the formal launch.

The TENAA listing shows the Vivo phone with a model number V2158A. This is believed to be associated with the Vivo Y32 model.

To give some details about the design, the online listing shows the phone through some of its early photos. The front of the phone shows its waterdrop-style notch, while the back view shows its multi-camera setup. The positioning and the design of the rear camera module is notably quite similar to what we have on Vivo Y33s that was launched in India in August.

Vivo Y32 specifications (expected)

The TENAA listing has also included some specifications of the phone. It shows that Vivo Y32 runs on Android 11 and has a 6.51-inch HD+ (1,600×720 pixels) TFT display and is powered by an octa-core SoC, along with 4GB, 6GB, and 8GB RAM options. The phone also has 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB of onboard storage models.

Vivo seems to have provided a dual rear camera setup on the phone. Some reports considered it as a triple rear camera module, though the back image and the specifications on the TENAA listing aren’t clearly confirming any such details. Gadgets 360 was also not able to independently verify the reported information.

The camera setup on the Vivo phone is listed with a 13-megapixel primary camera sensor at the back, along with a 2-megapixel secondary sensor. The TENAA listing also shows that there is an 8-megapixel selfie camera sensor at the front.

Further, the smartphone appears to have a 4,910mAh battery and has two colour options. It measures 165.01×75.20×9.19mm and weighs 204.75 grams, as per the listing.

Vivo has not yet provided any details about the Vivo Y32. However, the phone with the same V2158A model number reportedly received a go-ahead from the China Compulsory Certification (3C) just earlier this month. We can, therefore, safely expect some other certification bodies to list the smartphone in the coming days.

WhatsApp Reportedly Working on Extending Message Deletion Time Limit

[ad_1]

WhatsApp is reportedly working on increasing the time limit until when you can delete messages for everyone in chats. At the moment, WhatsApp allows you to delete messages for everyone within 1 hour, 8 minutes, 16 seconds. However, this limit is reported to be extended significantly in a future update. WhatsApp is currently working on this limit hike, and it is not even available for beta testers for now. While WhatsApp was earlier working on removing any limit on message deletion, those plans seem to have changed.

WABetaInfo reports that a new update to the message deletion feature has been spotted on WhatsApp Desktop beta 2.2147.4. The latest beta update suggests that WhatsApp is now planning to change the time limit for message deletion from 1 hour, 8 minutes, 16 seconds, to 7 days and 8 minutes. WABetaInfo also shared a screenshot to show that the message deletion options show up for a message that it at least a day old.

As mentioned, WhatsApp reportedly earlier planned to remove any restriction to delete messages. However, they are now planning to modify the current time limit at a later date, i.e., 7 days and 8 minutes for now. The tracker says that this feature is still under development, and there is a possibility that WhatsApp may again change its plans about this option before the official release or a new announcement from their social accounts.

As its still under development, this feature will not be available to users even on the latest WhatsApp Desktop beta 2.2147.4. WhatsApp is reportedly also working on introducing a feature that will speed up audio messages while they are being played back. This will work similar to the way voice notes can be sped up to 1.5x or 2x while they are played back. An audio message is essentially a forwarded voice note or any other audio that the sender has not recorded when it was sent. While the feature was spotted testing on iOS devices, it is speculated that Android devices may get the feature soon.

WhatsApp Said to Win Approval to Double Payments Offering in India

[ad_1]

WhatsApp has won regulatory approval to double the number of users on its payments service in India to 40 million, a source with direct knowledge told Reuters on Friday. The company had requested that there should be no cap on users of its payment service in India.

Instead, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) this week told the company it could double the user base to which it can offer its payment service – currently restricted to 20 million – the source said.

WhatsApp is owned by Facebook, which recently changed its name to Meta.

The source said the new cap would still hinder the company’s growth prospects given that WhatsApp’s messenger service has more than 500 million users in India, the company’s biggest market.

It was not clear when the new cap would come into effect.

WhatsApp did not immediately respond to a request for comment, while the NPCI declined to comment.

WhatsApp competes with Alphabet’s Google Pay, SoftBank- and Ant Group-backed Paytm, and Walmart’s PhonePe in India’s crowded digital market.

The NPCI gave WhatsApp approval to start its payments service last year after the company spent years trying to comply with Indian regulations, including data storage norms that require all payments-related data to be stored locally.

WhatsApp has almost reached its user base of 20 million for payment services, said the source, who declined to be identified as the details are private.

Online transactions, lending and e-wallet services have been growing rapidly in India, led by a government push to make the country’s cash-loving merchants and consumers adopt digital payments.

WhatsApp Testing Shortcut to Let You Quickly Forward Stickers

[ad_1]

WhatsApp has started testing a new shortcut to let users quickly forward stickers to their contacts. The change has initially been implemented for beta testers on Android, though it may reach the masses in the coming days. It comes days after WhatsApp introduced a custom sticker maker for its desktop and Web users to let them easily create new stickers. The instant messaging app owned by Meta (formally called Facebook) has been using stickers as one of the key sources to allow individuals to express themselves using small visuals. It also allowed third parties to build stickers for the app.

As spotted by WhatsApp features tracker WABetaInfo, WhatsApp for Android beta version 2.21.24.11 has brought the dedicated shortcut to let users quickly forward stickers. It also appeared for some beta testers on earlier versions. Gadgets 360 was able to see the update on the recent WhatsApp beta.

The forward shortcut sits next to the sticker you have in your message thread to let you instantly share with others on WhatsApp. You need to tap the shortcut and then select the contact with whom you want to share your sticker. This cuts down the normal process where you need to tap and hold the sticker and then hit the Forward button from the top bar to share it with your contacts.

WhatsApp already has a forward shortcut for images that works in a similar manner and helps you quickly share the images you have in your threads.

You can check out the update by downloading the latest WhatsApp for Android beta version after enrolling as a tester for WhatsApp on the Google Play Beta testing programme. Alternatively, you can look at the changes by sideloading the APK file of the beta version from APK Mirror.

WhatsApp introduced stickers on its platform back in October 2018. Since then, the messaging app has brought a list of updates to let people easily and more actively share stickers on the platform. It also launched stickers in Pay Mode in October this year and recently allowed Web and desktop users to start creating custom stickers to share on the platform.

Xiaomi to Open Car Plant in Beijing With Annual Output of 300,000 Vehicles

[ad_1]

Chinese smartphone giant Xiaomi will build a plant that can produce 300,000 vehicles annually in Beijing for its electric vehicle unit, authorities in the capital said on Saturday.

The plant will be constructed in two phases and Xiaomi will also built its auto unit’s headquarters, sales, and research offices in the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone, the government-backed economic development agency Beijing E-Town said on its official WeChat account.

Beijing E-Town said it anticipated the plant reaching mass production in 2024, a goal announced by Xiaomi’s Chief Executive Lei Jun in October.

In March, Xiaomi said it would commit to investing $10 billion (roughly Rs. 75,000 crores) in a new electric car division over 10 years. The company completed the business registration of its EV unit in late August.

The company has been opening thousands of stores to spur domestic sales growth for its smartphone business but eventually intends to use these shops as a channel for its plans to sell electric vehicles.

[ad_1]

In a new revelation in the Amazon drug peddling case, 10 dealers had been found registered at the same address from where the marijuana was being smuggled in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhind, informed the Police. Recently, Madhya Pradesh Police busted an alleged racket of the sale of marijuana in the name of Kadi Patta (curry leaves) through Amazon and arrested three accused.

A Gujarat-based textile company named Babu Tex was involved in the sale of drugs at Madhya Pradesh in the drug peddling case.

Amazon informed that 10 more dealers are registered at the same address (Babu Tex), out of which six sellers have supplied 360 packets of marijuana worth Rs 47 lakhs (via PhonePe),” said the Bhind’s Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar.

“After getting the company registered under the name Babu Tex, marijuana was being supplied to different parts of the country through the company,” said the SP.

In this case, arrests have also been made in Visakhapatnam in addition to Bhind and Gwalior, added the SP.

“Buyers are the same who purchased from Babu Tex,” he added.

“A police team was sent to Vizag to collect information. FIR has been lodged there.”

Amazon has been asked to provide information on sellers, transport, and warehouse.

Bhind SP had appealed to cooperate in the investigation on Amazon company, after which on Friday, a team of four members including Amazon company’s legal head Swati Agarwal and lawyer Sumant Narang reached Bhind and met the SP Manoj Kumar Singh.

The SP had a conversation with the team of Amazon.

Further investigations are underway.

Samsung Galaxy A13 4G specifications have surfaced on the Web. The new Samsung phone is said to have quad rear cameras and come in a plastic build. Although Samsung has not yet made an announcement about the new model, the Galaxy A13 4G production is said to be started at the company’s facility in India. Samsung Galaxy A13 4G is speculated to be in the works alongside its 5G variant that is already a part of the rumour mill.

Citing people familiar with the development, 91Mobiles reports that the Samsung Galaxy A13 4G production has started at the company’s Greater Noida factory. The phone is said to have a plastic rear panel with a glossy finish.

On the specifications part, Samsung Galaxy A13 4G is said to have a vertically aligned quad rear camera setup and a USB Type-C port. The phone would also come with a 3.5mm headphone jack for audio output. Further, the Galaxy A13 4G is said to have a power button and a volume rocker at the right and a loudspeaker grille at the bottom.

Astronomers Find Two New Galaxies ‘Hiding’ Behind Curtain of Dust

[ad_1]

The mysteries trapped in the corners of the universe are far more exciting than anyone could ever imagine. With each passing day and month, astronomers find new riddles and solve them in what is as puzzling as they are delightful. Sometimes astronomers find things in a place they least expect them to be. And that’s exactly what has happened with a group of astronomers looking for a simple sample of distant galaxies. Using radio waves, they discovered two “invisible” galaxies hiding behind a curtain of dust near the dawn of the universe. This curtain of dust was hitherto obscuring the galaxies from their view. The galaxies have been named REBELS-12-2 and REBELS-29-2 and they are among the most distant known galaxies.

Although the light from them has travelled 13 billion years to reach Earth, the galaxies are actually much farther away than that now — a staggering 29 billion light-years away. This is because the universe continuously expands. The astronomers used the Atacama Large Millimeter Array (ALMA), which captures radio waves.

The researchers have detailed their discovery in a paper published in the Nature journal. The study suggests that there were far more galaxies in the early universe than previously thought and raises new questions about our understanding of the universe. The astronomers have calculated that 10–20 percent of galaxies from the early universe may be hiding behind dust clouds, waiting to be discovered someday.

Astronomers usually use the Hubble Space Telescope to study cosmic mysteries. Though it has the most unobstructed view of the universe, Hubble can’t see everything as it watches the skies mostly in ultraviolet and visible wavelengths of light. So this group of astronomers used the ALMA telescope, which operates at wavelengths of 0.32mm to 3.6mm.

Pascal Oesch, an author of the study, said they were looking at a group of very distant galaxies with ALMA and then they noticed that two of them had a neighbour that wasn’t expected “to be there at all.” Both these neighbouring galaxies were surrounded with dust which blocked some of their light and Hubble couldn’t see them.

“We are trying to put the big puzzle about the universe’s formation together and answer the most basic question: ‘Where does it all come from?’” Oesch told New Atlas.

The astronomers are now waiting for more powerful instruments to be put in space so that their work can move forward. One of these power tools is the James Webb Space Telescope, which will specialse in infrared imaging of the cosmos. It is set to launch towards the end of this year, likely on December 22.
